Laser Decay Detection (Diagnodent)

New laser technology, called Diagnodent, allows us to detect dental decay with more accuracy. In addition to traditional examination with a sharp dental explorer, when needed, a laser light examination can be done on your teeth.

Diagnodent technology uses a simple beam of laser light to inspect your teeth for the first signs of cavities. As the light is shined onto grooves, fissures, and cracks on the tooth surface, light is reflected back. This reflected light is measured by receptors and evaluated electronically. Tooth decay reflects a specific wavelength of fluorescence when the laser beam strikes it, healthy tooth structure does not.
